- I thinking of making a log system for testing mountain bikes. Yes its
- a kind strange, but should be used for.
-
- - measuring stress on critical parts of the bike (with a strain gauge)
- - measuring bike speed, for finding the slow parts of a cource.
- - measuring front and rear suspension travel, to optimze utilisation
- of the suspension by changing spring stiffnes and damper
- caractiristics.
- - measuring riders pulse for training purpose.
- - logging use of brakes
-
- The system main purpose is for downhill racing, but can also be used
- for cross country.
-
- The CPU board should have the following
- -------------------------------------------------
- Musted features.
-
- - stand alone system with battery power supply (preferably low power
- consumption)
- - ROM for own software (auto booting, and own system software)
- - RAM for storing logged data (longer race implies more data)
- - system bus for own expansion preferably VME bus coz I used this
- before
- - RS 232 for connecting to portable PC for harddisk storing of data
- after the race, of cause without turning the system off.
-
- "Would also be nice" features
-
- - Programable timer circiut with output on system bus (needed for AD
- converters)
- - small physical dimensions, to fit easy on at bike (maybe in the
- bottle holder)
- - cheap price
-
- I dont need much CPU calculating power, only enough power to get the
- data, and the transfer the data to another computer for the number
- crunching.
-
- For the logging I will use lots of AD converters, which I will build
- on the system bus. I the card hasn't enough I will also make some of
- my own.
-
- I think that 10 AD convertes will be enough, max sample frequency of
- 200 Hz and memory for a 10 minute ride. Which results in a buffer size
- of 10 * 200Hz * 600s = 1,2 Mb which worst case because it gives the
- possibility of sampling at every 15 cm of travel with a speed of 100
- km/h.
